PSG Defeats Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure French Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening cup on 14 separate occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the showdown featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the net early on.

Yet, the southern French side fired two times late to seize a shock lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the final moments to send the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
