Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces growing in power within the urban setting.

Note: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.

Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the developments of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.

Casimir then cleared his liabilities and fled to a secure base in the remote area, beyond the city, with Cyd close behind.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each member has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and warns that it is a nasty environment.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could enable the group enter places they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The fighter pledged a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The healer turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the family.

This means them little choice but to head to Timmony in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we discover that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight players to form the Explorers and Planners parties.

Viewers can look forward to finding out which characters will be in which group in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on the upcoming Thursday.
